To advance the understanding of software development in the AI era, Sonar is committing $2.8M in SonarQube commercial licenses to the academic research community.
We invite accredited universities and research institutions to apply for free access to SonarQube commercial editions. This program seeks to empower academic researchers to deepen their ability to leverage our open source Community Build and leverage the full depth of our code quality and security analysis features.
Program focus areas
We are dedicated to supporting rigorous academic work that pushes the boundaries of software engineering. While we welcome broad inquiries, we are particularly excited to support research that addresses the following themes:
- Code quality and productivity: Furthering the understanding of how high standards in code quality influence developer productivity and overall program success.
- Technical debt: Developing new approaches to measure, manage, and reduce technical debt in enterprise environments.
- AI-enabled remediation: Establishing best practices and workflows for resolving code issues using AI assistants and agents.
Who should apply

What the grant includes
Successful applicants will receive access to SonarQube commercial licenses, including SonarQube Cloud Enterprise and SonarQube Advanced Security. These editions provide a level of deep analysis across over 30 languages, enabling you to:
- Analyze up to 1M MLOCs of all kinds of programming languages
- Detect all types of code quality and security issues, including complex taint vulnerabilities (SAST) and dependency risks (SCA)
- Access detailed reporting and governance reports suitable for large-scale data analysis.
