Acceptable Use Policy

Last updated November 7, 2025.

This Acceptable Use Policy ("AUP") is incorporated into the SonarSource Primary Service Agreement or other governing agreement between Customer and SonarSource (the "Agreement"). It governs the use of all SonarSource Products. This policy applies to all Customers and their authorized Users.

SonarSource's goal is to ensure the security, availability, and integrity of our Products for all users. Failure to comply with the spirit or intent of this AUP constitutes a breach of the Agreement and may result in the throttling or suspension of access to the Products or termination of the Agreement. SonarSource retains full discretion to determine whether any action or omission constitutes a violation of this policy, and to take action in response to a violation.

1. Violate Laws or Infringe on Rights

Customer shall not, without prior written consent:

  • Use the Products to store or transmit infringing, libelous, unlawful, or tortious material.
  • Use the Products to violate any rights of nonparties.
  • Access or use the Products or Documentation in violation of applicable law.

2. Disrupt or Abuse the Products

Customer shall not, without prior written consent:

  • Use the Products to store or transmit malicious code, Trojan horses, malware, spam, viruses, or other destructive technology.
  • Interfere with, impair, or disrupt the integrity or performance of the Products or any other third party’s use of the Products.
  • Access or use the Products in a manner that results in excessive API calls, use, bandwidth, or storage, or that otherwise harms the performance or security of the Products.

3. Misuse SonarSource Intellectual Property and Data

Customer shall not, without prior written consent:

  • Copy, reproduce, republish, upload, post, or transmit the Products or Documentation.
  • License, sell, resell, rent, lease, transfer, distribute, or otherwise transfer rights to the Products or Documentation.
  • Modify, reverse engineer, decompile, disassemble, create derivative works, or otherwise attempt to derive the source code of the Products or Documentation.
  • Remove any proprietary notices or labels on the Products or Documentation, unless authorized by SonarSource.

4. Violate Security and Access Controls

Customer shall not, without prior written consent:

  • Provide, make available to, or permit third parties to use or access the Products, other than to authorized Users.
  • Alter, circumvent, or provide the means to alter or circumvent the Products, including their technical limitations, recurring fees, or usage limits.
  • Perform or disclose any performance or vulnerability testing, password cracking, or remote access testing of the SaaS Products or SaaS Components.

5. Engage in Unfair Trade Practices

Customer shall not, without prior written consent:

  • Create, market, or distribute add-ons or enhancements to the Products, or incorporate the Products into another product.
  • Access or use the Products or Documentation if you are a direct competitor of SonarSource.
  • Disclose, publish, or otherwise make publicly available any benchmark, comparative, or performance tests or evaluations of the Products.
  • Perform, or direct any third party to perform, any benchmark, comparative, or performance tests or evaluations on the Products for competitive advantage.

6. Abuse Data

Customer shall not, without prior written consent:

  • Use Results Data to train, fine-tune, or otherwise improve any LLM Technologies, including but not limited to models or systems for code analysis, code quality assessment, code generation, or code improvement.
  • Use Results Data to develop, build, or enhance products or services that compete with the Products, including but not limited to static code analysis tools, code quality platforms, security scanning tools, or code review systems (whether based on LLM Technologies or not.)
  • Use LLM Technologies to systematically extract, aggregate, or repurpose Results Data in a manner that circumvents Product APIs or technical limitations, or in a manner that creates a substitute for the Products.
  • Enhance, augment, or improve data provided by the Products, except via Product APIs, or where the Products otherwise expressly permit, such use.
  • Use Results Data unless the relevant Customer Data is active in the Products.

For clarity, nothing in this section prohibits Customer from: (a) using Results Data in conjunction with general-purpose AI coding assistants, development tools, or similar productivity software for Customer's internal software development purposes; or (b) using Results Data to improve Customer's own code or software products that are not competitive with the Products (subject to Section 5's restrictions on product enhancements and integrations).
