Activating your SonarQube Server license

In this video, you’ll learn how to activate your SonarQube Server license when your SonarQube Server instance can connect to the internet. If your SonarQube Server is air-gapped, watch the video “Activating your SonarQube Server license in air-gapped environments” instead. To activate your license, you’ll need three things: Your 16-digit license key from the Sonar License Portal. If you’re not the license manager, they’ll need to share it with you. The Administer System permission in SonarQube Server. And internet access from the machine that runs your SonarQube Server instance, so it can reach Sonar’s licensing service. If you’re a license manager, but you’re not sure how to retrieve your license key, watch the video Getting started with the Sonar License Portal. When you have the 16-digit license key from your license manager, log in to SonarQube Server as an administrator user who has the Administer System permission. Go to Administration > Configuration > License manager And click Add license. On the Set up a license dialog box, paste your license key into the license field, Accept the terms and conditions, and click Set license. SonarQube Server contacts Sonar’s licensing service and activates your license automatically. You don't need to manually upload or download any files. The SonarQube Server license page shows that your license is Valid. Now you can log into the Sonar License Portal to see the changes there. To see that the license has been activated, go to Licenses, scroll to the new license, and check the Times Activated column. To see more detailed information, select a license in the list. On License Details, you can see that the license is Active. To see which devices are using the license, go to the Devices tab. If your SonarQube Server instance can’t reach Sonar’s licensing service for any reason, you’ll be prompted to activate offline. If this happens, you can ask your network team to allow outbound HTTPS access to the licensing service, or you can watch the video for offline license activation information: Activating your SonarQube Server License in Air-gapped Environments. Activating a license through the offline, or air-gapped, method requires a file exchange between SonarQube Server and Sonar's offline activation page. That’s it! Your license is activated, and your team can start using SonarQube Server.
